the Seattle area, and I miss seeing Mt. Rainier on cloudless days. I played team
sports starting at a young age, and I guess that is how I initially became
interested in the field of physical therapy. I broke my thumb playing softball
when I was in 7th grade, and though the injury didn't require rehab, that was
the event that made me think about PT. During college I had several good
experiences volunteering with therapists in a variety of settings. Even though
the sports aspect of PT got me thinking, my experiences with pediatric physical
therapy helped me confirm my career choice. Through the curriculum at the
University of Minnesota, I had the opportunity to work with a geriatric
population at long term care facilities. I currently work a weekend shift at a
hospital as an aide, and I work with quite a few orthopedic/joint replacement
patients as well as patients on the cardiac and general medical floors. I have
enjoyed the variety of patients that I have interacted with in the hospital, and
my experiences with the geriatric patients at the hospital has made me more open
to working in that field. Don't rule it out until you try it!
While I am not looking forward to taking the board exam, I am ready for "real
life" with a job that pays! In addition to graduation and finding a job, I am
also getting married this summer. I'll have a busy couple of months, but it will
be worth it. I enjoy running, spending time with my friends and family, seeing
new places, and watching the Seattle Mariners.
