  • US News and World reports recently released it’s list of best careers for the year 2009.  Great news!  Physical and Occupational Therapy both ranked in the top 30 careers.  So you may be asking what exactly makes a great career?  Well the criteria used to rank the top 30 jobs included median pay, job satisfaction, training difficulty, prestige, job market outlook, and education requirements. Want to know how each career ranked?  Click here for a report card showing the grades in each category.

In addition to writing the article US News and World Reports also selected a few of the careers to profile on video.  The video below is a great piece by Occupational Therapist Christine Harmon explaining what an OT does.  While Christine works in pediatrics she talks at length about what a pediatric OT does she also mentions OT’s in nursing homes and what is involved in their job as well.

Are you an OT or a PT?  Do you enjoy your job?  Leave us a comment and let us know why OT and PT are rewarding professions.

Occupational therapy is in high demand. I recently graduated from college and my professors continually reinforced the job security that came with an occupational therapy degree. It is a rewarding career that offers excellent options in the health care field and provides high salaries as well. Check out http://www.degreesinhealthcare.org to learn more about earning a degree in occupational therapy.

I am an Occupational Therapist registered and licensed in the state of Texas. I want to relocate to Belize or surrounding areas. I read that there is a need there. How do I start?

Hi, Christine. That is a good question! My suggestion would be to visit to the AOTA website (www.aota.org) to see if they have any information on international practices, specifically in or around Belize. Unfortunately, at this time RehabCare only operates in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
