Break Personal Record at the 9th Annual Nautica NYC Triathlon on
July 26h
LOS ANGELES (TUESDAY, JULY 21, 2009) – US
Paralympic Blind Triathlete Aaron Scheidies and RehabCare announced today a multi-year partnership in
which the elite athlete will work with the leading national physical
rehabilitation provider on a variety of college recruiting initiatives.
A physical therapist with his doctorate
from University of Washington, the 27-year-old Scheidies works with RehabCare
at one of their Seattle locations and will be part of their college recruiting
program, visiting campuses around the nation as a spokesperson and spreading
the word about RehabCare’s mission of helping people regain their lives.
“We are thrilled to support Aaron as he
inspires others to succeed in each challenge that is presented to them, both
physically and emotionally,” said Barbara Wallace, Assistant Vice President of
Campus Relations for RehabCare. “As a professional athlete, physical therapist
and person, Aaron exudes positivity, which is something we strive to impart on
our patients as they take on their own personal competition.”
Scheidies, who holds the fastest time in
the Ironman (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) and 70.3 distance
(1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, 13.1 mile run) in the challenged category will
also be writing articles for RehabCare’s college student blog on a variety of
topics including his race experiences, injury prevention and recovery.
“I am
super excited to represent a company that supports me so strongly both
professionally and athletically.” Scheidies went on to say, “Both RehabCare and
I are passionate about helping people realize their goals for recovery and in
meeting the special needs of the older patient.
We will be a great team and there could not be a better place and event
to begin our mission than in the heart
of New York City."
With more than 100 triathlons completed,
Scheidies’ partnership with RehabCare will debut next weekend when he
participates in the 9th Annual Nautica New York City Triathlon on Sunday, July 26th. A
six-year competitor of the race and three-time World Champion, Scheidies will
look to win yet again the coveted 1st place spot in the Physically Challenged
Category. Named the 2009 May NYC Triathlete of the Month, the Michigan State
alum hopes to break his own world record of 1:58 on the streets of NYC.
Scheidies will be guided at the 2009 Nautica
NYC Triathlon by friend Matt West, who has guided Scheidies to more than a half
dozen first-place finishes in the challenged division of competition.
“The NYC
Triathlon is and will always be my favorite triathlon due to its sheer
uniqueness. In no other event can you
swim in the Hudson River, ride on a major highway in New York and run in
Central Park without stopping for taxi cabs or getting picked up by the
police,” said Scheidies.
