Let’s Get Moving
Today is October 1st, which means it is officially National Physical Therapy Month! All month long physical therapists and physical therapist assistants will be spreading the word on "the importance of physical activity to prevent and combat obesity and its consequences".
Did you know that over 60% of the United States adult population (20 or older) is overweight or obese? And, adults aren't the only ones in trouble. The obesity rate of children ages 2-18 is on the rise and it will keep growing if we don't take action!
Taking action means getting physical and moving. The U.S. Dept. of Health & Human Services suggests we take part in moderate exercises for at least 2.5 hours per week or vigorous activities for at least 1.25 hours per week. Can you put 1 to 3 hours aside a week for physical activity? I think you can! If you aren’t already physically active this is a GREAT time of year to start. The weather is just cooling off and it’s perfect for a little outside fun. You can rake the leaves, do some gardening, take a bike ride or even go for a run. In fact, when I leave the office tonight, I think I will go for a long run outside! What are you going to do?
