Students Gain Experience & Help The Community – Nothing Better!
The Department of Physical Therapy at Texas State University, San Marcos is set to receive a great addition to their Balance and Gait Training Program! This August, just in time for the 2011 fall semester, the InMotion Arm Robot will be delivered. Around the same time last year, the grant-funded program began at the PT clinic on campus and has been providing physical therapy twice a week to clients for six weeks free of charge every since.
“The successful Balance and Gait Training Program has already seen dramatic results in the area of lower-body rehabilitation. With reciprocal trainers and harness treadmills, participants in the regimen have not only recovered the ability to walk, but several can now also run, Gobert said. The program’s biggest shortcoming was a lack of upper extremity rehabilitation—something the arm robot rectifies.”
The program is a win-win situation. Upper classmen get to practice their skills and work with patients who have experienced neurological disorders and the community receives free therapy services. There is nothing better than a successful program that benefits all involved!
