PT Students from the University of Washington rally with local legislators to encourage them to vote for the Bill currently in congress, Student Loan Repayment for Physical Therapist. As you may have read on our January 21st blog post, Take Action- Student Loans for Physical Therapy Students, there is currently a bill in congress that will allow Physical Therapist who practice in an underserved area to be eligible to participate in the National Health Services Corps Student Loan Repayment Program. While searching on the internet for Therapy Student Blog sites I came across the UW PT Student Blog.
The blog is being used as a means of communication between the three schools in the state of Washington: University of Washington, University of Puget Sound, and Eastern Washington University. What a great way for students to ban together for a common cause. The most recent event the area students have put together was a Rally Day for PT and PTA students to meet and address their local representatives in efforts to gain support for the Loan bill in congress.
"Rally Day is a good opportunity to learn and groom skills to approach legislators. Some people have no issues talking, but may get shy. The reality is legislators want to hear from constituents, so each student should sign up, so they get to see the people representing them......."

As we posted earlier on our blog, there is currently a bill on the tables of our Congressmen and Congresswomen that needs your support. The bill is regarding the Physical Therapist Student Loan Repayment Eligibility Act and the APTA is asking the therapy world to take action and help push the bill through Congress.
"The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) strongly supports HR 1134/S. 2485 to enable physical therapists to participate in the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program. This initiative will encourage physical therapists to practice in rural and urban undeserved communities by helping to address the rising student loan debt load of physical therapists that might otherwise not be able to afford to practice in those areas."
