As part of its commitment to supporting continuing education opportunities and membership in professional associations for its therapists, RehabCare has become a National Partner of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). Through this partnership, RehabCare’s 1,300 occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants will receive discounted memberships in AOTA, and deep discounts on educational materials, conference fees and other AOTA resources.
Because RehabCare provides each of its therapists with a professional development stipend, known as a Professional Choice Account, the partnership also means that its OTs and OTAs will be able to sign up for AOTA membership at no cost to them.
“One of the qualities that has always set RehabCare apart is the level of training we provide to our clinicians,” says John Short, Ph.D., President and CEO of RehabCare. “This partnership reinforces the value that RehabCare places on professional membership. In a multitude of ways, AOTA helps our occupational therapy practitioners be better at what they do, and ultimately, to provide better care to our patients.”
Established in 1917 and representing more than 35,000 members, AOTA is an active advocate for the profession and for individuals who can benefit from occupational therapy services.
“I am enthusiastic about this new partnership because the interaction between AOTA and RehabCare demonstrates both organizations’ belief in and encouragement of occupational therapy practitioners to lead the way in evolving practice,” says Penelope Moyers-Cleveland, President of AOTA. “Both organizations benefit when occupational therapy practitioners are able to significantly contribute to the growth of the profession. I look forward to seeing how this partnership will model the way in which employers and the professional organization can work together to make a difference in health care service delivery.”
The AOTA provides a variety of resources and tools that assist occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, and students in providing ethical, occupation-based practice with a focus on client activity, participation, and quality of life in a changing domestic and global environment.
